Scientific Research of the Faculty of Foreign Languages
Practices of educational development are inseparable from research activities. Research is a driving force to increase the quality of teaching and learning in the university environment. Research is not only about finding new points in theory and practice, but also in efforts to confirm the effectiveness of a theory or practical model that is being applied in life.
Department of English/American Language and Culture knows this. Despite being very busy with teaching, lecturers from the department always spend time on research in the specialized fields they are interested in: applied linguistics, translation, language and culture. Compared with the universities with a rich history of research development, we are proud the modest research beginnings of the department make its mark through reports at conferences and articles published in national and international research journals.
Our complished research studies show the diversity of participants as well as the type of research conducted. Research is conducted not only by individual faculty members, but also by groups of lecturers, students or combinations. Teachers’ and students’ research presentations at international conferences are not uncommon. In addition, their studies vary from a theoretical and practical models to 'empirical' designs in qualitative and quantitative types of research.
With the initial steps contributing to the research 'flower garden' in the country and the world, our team gradually prove ourselves as professional researchers with a strong desire to contribute to the creation of new knowledge and practice models in the field of training English language teachers, translators, and those wishing to use English in the work environment.
Having clearly defined scientific research as playing an important role in promoting the faculty's professional development and teaching quality, Department of General English focuses on action research, aimed at encouraging teachers to explore creative approaches to improve teaching effectiveness and apply them in classrooms. This is a process whereby lecturers proactively set out research directions based on their own knowledge and practical experience to solve problems encountered in the teaching process.
Moreover, this research orientation also helps lecturers improve their professional and research competencies through theoretical, practical analysis and selecting appropriate approaches. Although it has only started in the last few years, the department's lecturers have achieved very encouraging results. Over the years, their research results have been presented at prestigious scientific conferences in the country and abroad.
